Amandeep completes start-to-finish win in fourth leg of Hero WPGT

Bengaluru, Feb 21:There is something about the Bangalore Golf Club that appeals to Amandeep Drall. Seven months after her last win, which came at the Bangalore Golf Club, Amandeep won at the same venue on Friday. Despite an over par card of three-over 73, Amandeep extended her lead and won by three shots over Vani Kapoor (74) in the fourth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour.

Amandeep’s previous win on the Hero Tour came in July last year when she held a share of the lead after the first round and went on to win. This time she was sole leader through the three rounds.

Starting with a two-shot lead, Amandeep dropped a shot on the first and a double bogey on Par-3 fifth, but with her nearest rival Vani, dropping shots on third and fourth, the Panchkula golfer stayed ahead by one.

It was from the sixth that Amandeep pulled away as she had three birdies in four holes from sixth to ninth. Her lead over Vani had extended to four shots. Amandeep again had a lapse as she dropped a double bogey on Par-4 11th and a bogey on 12th, but Vani traded a birdie and a bogey on 10thand 11th.

Van dropped further shots on 14thand 16th, while Amandeep birdied 15th to get a solid four-shot cushion and she could afford to drop a shot on 18th and still win by three shots as Vani totalled 216 to Amandeep’s 213.

For Vani, it was her best result since her runner-up finish behind amateur Sneha Singh in the 11th leg in Hyderabad last year. This steady display despite some late bogeys on the final day should hold her in good stead.

Amateur Asmitha Sathish shot 73 to finish third at 218, while Khushi Khanijau (73) was fourth at 221. Neha Tripathi (75) and Oviya Reddi (77) were tied for fifth as Saaniya Sharma (75) was seventh and amateur Sneha Sharan (75) was eighth. Gursimar Badwal (78) and Anousha Tripathi (79) completed the Top-10.

It was a disappointing week for Pranavi Urs, winner of the last two events, once as an amateur and last week as a professional. She was also second in the first leg, but this week with rounds of 77-79-75 she was tied 11th with Siddhi Kapoor (77).

The win on Friday also took Amandeep Drall to the top of the Hero Order of Merit, with earnings of Rs. 3,37,400 and Ananya Datar (Rs. 2,73,350) was second. The third placed is Afshan Fatima (Rs. 2,67,650).
